The sentence "Rose is a rose is a rose is a rose" was written by
Gertrude Stein in 1913. This is probably her most famous quote,
often interpreted as meaning "things are what they are".
"Three in a Room"
oil on gallery wrapped canvas 8"x10"
I have always enjoyed parts of the old style layout of our museum,
like being able to look through the rooms to the opposite hallway.
Our museum remains open, even though it is now under renovation,
with new parts being built and some old sections being changed.
I have been working on a large commission that requires a looser,
abstract expressive painting style and it has created a "yearning"
for more. I hope you enjoy this larger, in the window, painting
as much as I did creating it!! :)
This was a really fun and interesting commission!
When she was little, visiting her grandfather,he would often
give her two quarters and say, "Here's your two bits".
So, in honor of her grandfather after his passing and to raise
money to fight Diabetes, she started a bike riding group and
named it TWO BITS.
She wanted a painting, for her home, that depicted more than
one bike and quarters in the wheels but she also wanted to be
able to have the image on their shirts.
This is what I created! Hope you enjoy it!!! :)
Here is a fun size for the first painting of a possible new series -
"In the Window". This idea popped in my head while watching a CSI
episode. It made me remember a series of paintings that I did in the
70's of the neighborhood where I had my first studio/gallery.
Oh the things I saw in the windows then, might make your hair curl,
but it was great, from an artist point of view.
Anyway, it's a little bit of voyeurism but could be great fun...
