Then & Now - Indifference

Copyright © 2009 Linda Apple
"Then & Now"
oil on canvas - 8"x10" - sold
art museum series

A man walking past a classic sculpture at the
art museum creates a hint of indifference.
In this context, when you compare a man from then & now,
they really haven't changed that much.

Shopping in the big city can be a bit overwhelming.
I am often a bit dazzled and amazed by the old huge
buildings and the endless variety of window displays.

Monet, Claude Oscar (1840-1926), French painter, a leading figure in the
late-19th-century movement called impressionism. Monet's paintings captured
scenes of middle-class life and the ever-changing qualities of sunlight in nature.
His technique of applying bright, unmixed colors in quick, short strokes became
a hallmark of impressionism.

Just a bit of fun. I had thought to title this one: Mimicking Manikins.
Could be another name for it, as......who is mimicking who?
Have you noticed that I have been getting into orange lately,(and lovin it)?
Such a great color....should be the new "Black".

It's Not ALL Black & White - What is art?

Copyright © 2009 Linda Apple
"It's Not ALL Black & White"
oil on canvas - 6"x 8"
art museum series

A big universal question that has been thrown around,
theorized about and created many debates in the art world is:
"What is art?" Everyone seems to have an opinion on the topic.
I find myself asking this question when I come across certain
works of "art". As this painting shows........I wonder what does
an all white painting or all black painting REALLY say?
Hmmmmmmmmmmm?

A bit of fun today. Punked out with some pop....
I think the image says it all!

Andy Warhol - 1928 - 1987
No other artist is as much identified with Pop Art as Andy Warhol.
The media called him the Prince of Pop. Warhol made his way from a
Pittsburgh working class family to an American legend.

"Deli Boys"

Copyright © 2009 Linda Apple
"Deli Boys"
original painting is sold
giclee print - 6"x 8"

I don't usually say a lot about the paintings because I want the art to
speak for itself and allow the viewer to create their own stories,
but I have to say that I was thrilled with the end result of this painting.
It seems to have all the color, design and message that I always strive for
in my work. It's a personal thing. You know that feeling when everything
seems to come together; one of those little moments that makes it all worthwhile.
