"The Plant and the Moth"- original acrylic painting 18 x 18 Click here for available art!
2020 begins with a new series of environmental paintings "Sacred Earth". The theme that we are all connected. This painting begins on the Hawaiian Islands with a story about "the cabbage-on-a- stick" (Brighamia insignis) and the Hawk Moth (Agrius convolvuli). The plant grows on rocky ledges with little soil and steep sea cliffs. As of today, the species is possibly extinct in the wild (the last single individual was recorded in the wild in 2014). This is because its only pollinator was a certain type of now-extinct Hawk Moth, which has made it all but impossible for B. insignis to reproduce on its own.
This is a very organic intuitive style of painting, built on many layers of paint, in order to symbolize the connections and partnerships on our planet that are endangered.
