A Painting A Day - Nov.26, 2006

oil on masonite 5" x 6"
"This is Christopher. He is a very inquistive little
guy. He loves to be read to and you can usually find him
sitting on his favorite story book. Like the hero in his book
Christopher plans on NEVER growing up."

favorite ornament and prepares for Santas' arrival !"

Moving On

"Movin' On"

Visionary Art
Oil on Canvas 5 ' x 7 '

"I decided to post this painting for various reasons. First,
was to show one of my large works and second because
a few people have wanted to see a completed view.
It was commissioned by a collector and friend of mine
for her new home. Usually, when I do a work like this, I
do not have pre-conceived idea. I approach the canvas
with the buyer in mind and start painting but this was
different. The idea for this painting came to me, in a half
sleep, as though I was viewing a movie. It took nine
months to completion. I am happy to say that she loved
the painting and it now takes up a whole wall in her
new home."

Mary's Birthday mixed media assemblage altered art

copyright by L. Apple

"It is Mary Pruitt's birthday but she really isn't in
the party mood even though Albert (the family dog)
is trying to entertain her by dancing and smoking
his pipe! "

With my warped sense of humor...I
like this one! I paint the canvas and then
add images, objects, cloth etc.
This one
has some old jewelry and the black & white

on the floor and frame is cloth.

It must be the color scheme."

8 x 10" - mixed media on canvas
10 x 12" - comes in a primitive style frame

"I have created collage work since the sixties and recently did
a series of fun pieces that I decided to post.
This one is my perception of Tea Cup Fairies sitting on their
over stuffed couch in their make believe forest. They are wearing
the tea cups on their heads and have little butterfly looking wings.
An ancient urn contains some red cloth flowers that
come out over the frame."

I paint the canvas and then add images, objects, cloth etc.

" Antique Scottie Dog Pin Cushion" - sold
6 x 7 inches -
oil on masonite

"This rare old pin cushion belongs to a friend of mine
who is a scottie dog collector. I thought this was an
unusual item and had to do a painting of it. I
liked the difference of the textures; the satin cushion,
stitching around the edges and the ceramic dogs."

" Old Blood Hound "- Sold
4 x 5 inches - oil on masonite

"One of my little cast iron collectibles.
I think he is so cute that I had to make him

look (don't you think?) Hope you enjoy him!"

"Hen on Nest" - SOLD
A Painting A Day - Nov.7, 2006

6" x 7" inches -
oil on masonite

"This was my grandmas white milk glass
"Hen on Nest" covered dish. She had a big one and
this small one. I have no idea what you are suppose
to put in them, but I think they are cool. This was an
interesting painting to do as it was a study in whites.
For fun...if you know what to put in them...feel free
to email me !"

"Old Maytag Oil Can" - SOLD

Print photo at home
A Painting A Day - Nov.6, 2006
This painting was dark, so I put a white border behind
it so it would show up on this blog, original does not have
white around it.

4 x 6 inches -
oil on masonite

"This is a little old Maytag Oil Can, made in
Newton, Iowa that I found in my mom and dads'
old shed a few years ago. I am sure dad never
thought of it as an antique collectible, it was
just one of his old oil cans that he knew he
would use for something, someday. He would of
thought it funny that I would do a painting of it."

"Luscious Strawberries" - SOLD
A Painting A Day - Nov.3, 2006

2.75 x 4.75 inches -
oil on masonite

"There was a great buy on Strawberries at
the grocery the other day. I just had to have
some for my breakfast cereal.
It's funny how we look at these daily items
and never really look. When I was painting them
I began to realize how complicated they
are with their little indentions and tiny seeds."

"Old Gas Pump" - sold
4 x 6 inches -
oil on masonite

"Just a fun piece of an A.O.Smith gasoline pump.
This old pump sits on a friends farm.
I wanted to capture the light and shadows
on the glass face, made by the surrounding trees.
Makes me remember when gas was cheap! "
